Year wise list of village to village survey / exploration conducted by Aurangabad Circle, Archaeological Survey of India, from 1956 to till date

1956 – 57 Dhulia Shri S. B. Deo and Shri Z. A. Ansari of the circle during the course of exploration in Kukarmunde found site, end, hallow and round scrapers. The material was jasper, agate and less frequency of chalcedony.
1956 – 57 Dhulia Shri P. V. Sonani picked up some lower Paleolithic tools like hand axe and cleavers, during the course of exploration in Eklahare, District West Khandesh.
1957 – 58 Ahmednagar Shri B. P. Bopardikar of the circle during the course of exploration collected microlith from the river bed at Chichondi Patil. 
1957 – 58 Dhulia Shri B. B. Lal of the circle during the course of exploration, collected Paleolithic and late stone age tools in Kondivate in West Khandesh district.
1957 – 58 Dhulia Shri S. A. Sali of the circle discovered several ancient sites, mostly on the bank of the river Tapi and its tributary.  The tools typology comprises – hand axes, cleavers and scrapers.
1958 – 59 Ahmednagar Shri B. P. Bopardikar of the circle discovered tools of series II mostly scrapers, from Bare-gaon-Nandur, Tandurwaki, Dhanori Budruk and Khurd and Manori – Renapur each situated on the Mula river or one of its tributaries. 
1958 – 59 Chandrapur Shri L. K. Srinivasan found series I and II, microlithic and black polished shreds at Bagaram, tools of series II and Neolithic implement at Sironcha and a number of stone-circles at Chakalapet in Chandrapur District. 
1959 – 60 Ahmednagar Shri B. P. Bopardikar during the exploration, found Paleolithic tools including choppers, cleaves and scrapers at Vadhair, Tambhere, Pathre-Khurd, Kamagar-Budrukh and Kamagar-Khas. 
1959 – 60 Chandrapur Shri L. K. Srinivasan discovered a number of Paleolithic site at Wagheda and Saradpar. The tools type includes choppers, pebble hand axes, bifacial hand axes and cleavers. 
1959 – 60 Dhulia In the course of survey of Ranka-nala, a tributary of the Tapi, between Kumbharpad and umaj, Shri S. A. Sali, brought light on interesting sequence of lithic industries in this area.
1960 - 61 Ahmednagar In the course of exploration in Rahuri and Parner Taluka in district, Shri B. P. Bopardikar explored many numbers of sites assignable to Paleolithic, microlith and early historic period
1960 - 61 Chandrapur Shri L. K. Srinivasan of the circle discovered a number of pre-historic sites in the basins of the Wardha and Wainganga rivers. Of these two sites Papamiya-Tekdi and Jhari-Mangrul are of particular interest as they yield a succession of lithic industries right from the pebble chopper stage up to the microlithic
1961 - 62 Chandrapur Shri L. K. Srinivasan during the exploration in Jharpat river valley to the east of the town of Chandrapur and collected a number of unificial pebble tools along with bifacial hand axes and cleavers. Typical specimens of the blade-burin industry were also found in the locality
1961 - 62 Dhulia In the course of Exploration S. A. Sali of the Circle collected a few early stone age tools at Bhadne, Middle Stone Age tools from Chhadvel and Perajpur besides, so many Chalcolithic habitation sites were discovered in and around the Dhulia district.
1962 - 63 Chandrapur Shri L. K. Srinivasan, during his course of exploration in the valley of the Godavari, Indravati, Wainganga and Wardha, discovered sites of early and Middle Stone Age, Late Stone Age and Megalithic stone-circle.  The tools typology comprises of pebble tools along with Achulian hand axes, cleavers and scrapers.
1962 - 63 Dhulia S. A. Sali, during of exploration in the valley of the Kan in Taluka Sakri and besides, locating more sites of the Early and Middle Stone Age recovered at Badne.
1962 - 63 Jalgaon In district Jalgaon he also discovered sites yielding microlithic at Jalgaon and Vakad and a Chalcolithic site at Neri-Budrukh.
1963 - 64 Chandrapur Shri L. K. Srinivasan, during the exploration in the basins of the rivers Wainganga and Wardha, located many sites yielded tools of  Early and Middle Stone Ages
1963 - 64 Dhulia S. A. Sali, during the course of exploration in Taluka Sakri noticed a cliff section at Mhasdi on the river Panjara and recovered Middle Stone Age tools from the lowest gravels and a blade of agate from the upper gravel.  He also located Ø    Middle Stone Age Site, yielding core, scraper, points and flake mainly on jasper at Dhammar, Ganeshpur and Nilgavan. Ø    Late Stone Age sites yielding microlith on Chalcedony and agate at Darkhed, Deghne, Kakan-Pada, Nilgavan, Pratapur, Umbharti and Umbhre. Ø    Chalcolithic sites at Chinchkhed, Darkhel and Nadso. Ø    Temple ruins assignable to 12th –13th Century A.D. at Bahad, Chail, Ganeshpur and Pratapur and Ø    Sites with remains of the Mughal and Maratha periods at Chinchkhede and Pratapur.
1964 - 65 Chandrapur Shri L. K. Srinivasan, during the course of exploration discovered Middle Stone Age tools at Lonhar in Tahsil Warora. The tools made on fine grained quartzite and comprise scrapers, blades and points. 
1964 - 65 Dhulia S. A. Sali, the course of exploration in the district found: -  i)         A crude hand axe on fine-grained red basalt from a highly consolidated gravel of the Panjara at Datarti. ii)        Middle Stone Age tools at Chhardi, Arodona, Isarda, Kandhara and other places. The artifacts include cores, blades, scrapers and flakes. Chalcolithic habitation sites were discovered at Balsana, Dusana, Kandhra, Runmali, Saidnagar, Satmana and Vehergaon. Ruins of temple, step-well, hero stone and sculpture, ascribable to 13th –14th Century AD were discovered at Chhavdi, Dusana, Hordana, Indva, Kandhra, Vadil and Vehergaon. Remains of fortification and others structures assignable to the Mughal-Maratha time were noticed at Domkani, Dusana, Mordana and Vehergaon.
1965 - 66 Aurangabad Krishna Kumar of the survey in course of an exploration located an extensive site yielding artifacts of the Middle and Late Stone Ages, near the Ajanta Caves on either bank of the river Waghora.  He also found Middle and Late Stone Age tools near the Ghatotakaha Cve on either bank of Pippalkhora nullah and near Tanda in the vicinity of the Pitalkhora cave.
1965 - 66 Dhulia S. A. Sali, the course of exploration noticed in the cultivation fields at Raypur Bhadgaon, four groups of Stone Age tools, ascribable respectively to Ø   The Early Stone Age represented half a dozen tools on trap including Choppers on massive cores. Ø   The Middle Stone Age, represented on Jasper. Ø   The Late Stone Age represented on Jasper and Chalcedony and consisting of irregular and fluted cores, blade-flakes, scrapers and burin and Ø   The Late Stone Age, represented chiefly on Chalcedony. 
1966 - 67 Dhulia S. A. Sali, in the course of exploration, observed the sequence of deposit at Mahunji Pada. The implement recovered are mostly of Late Stone Age and included one large cuboid core of chalcedony closely resembling a crested ridge. 
1967 - 68 Dhulia S. A. Sali, of the circle explored the district in view to made geomorphologic studies in the Tapti basin. 
1968 - 69 Dhulia S. R. Rao of the circle re-examined the previously explored mound at Hingoni Budruk, Kaotha and Khaparkheda and found some specimens of Late Harappan red and buffish ware, comparable to the Late Harappan and Sawalda ware in the Tapi Valley, suggest that the late Sawalda ware in the Tapi Valley
1973 - 74 Chandrapur During the course of exploration L. K. Sarma and D. Hanumantha Rao – discovered a microlithic factory site at Ramdigi on the bank of a nullah. The tools included both geometric and non-geometric types made on jasper, chert and chalcedony. The assemblage is devoid of any pottery. The microlithic of similar types were picked up form Check-Kesambi, Lalpeth and Selur, all in Chandrapur District
1973 - 74 Dhulia S. A. Sali, of the survey during the course of exploration discovered many sites. A site with microlithic, Chiefly on Chalcedony was discovered at Boradi, Shirpur Taluka, on the bank of the Ambad nullah. A Chalcolithic site was discovered at Sarangkheda, Shahada Taluka on the right bank of the Tapi. Besides, a rubber stone and a few fluted cores, the site yielded pottery of (i) Savalda Ware, (ii) Late Harappan Ware, (iii) Black and Grey Ware      (iv) Burnished Grey Ware and (v) Thick coarse Ware with incised and appliqué design.
1975 - 76 Chandrapur In the course of exploration of Submergence area under the Inchampalli Project in Sironcha Taluka D. Hanumanth Rao of the circle discovered sites yielding lower Paleolithic to microlithic tools and medieval temples, sculptures and structures. 
1978 - 79 Chandrapur In the course of exploration in Brahmapuri Taluka G. K. Mane at the circle discovered a Megalithic burial site with nearly one hundred stone circle situated around a 10 meters high mound, yielding micacious red ware with painting in black and black-and-red ware, at Kahali. A habitaitonal site probably belonging to the Satavahana times yielding brick structures and terracotta figurine at Chandrapur and a site, yielding microlithic consisting of blades, bladelets and lunates made on Chalcedony at Bandegaon. S. N. Raghunath of the circle also noticed a factory site belonging to lower Paleolithic industry on a high hill slope and a terrace of the river Pranahita and Bamragarh in Sironcha Taluka. The tools include hand axes, cleavers, cores, flakes and blades make on quartizite.  
1978 - 79 Dhulia V. L. Dharurkar of the circle in the course of exploration in Sindkhed Taluka, discovered Late Harappan sites at Shevraballi, varsus and Walkheda. The vast mound at Varsus situated on the Burai. Yielded pottery of the Chalcolithic and historical period, terracotta figurines, chert blades and conch-shell bangle pieces, one of which bears an engraved designs showing resemblance with the Harappan script.
1979 - 80 Ahmednagar L. S. Rao of the circle, during the course of exploration noticed stone sculpture representing Vishnu, Ganesh, Brahma, Siva-Parvati, Kirti-Mukha and a bull, belonging to the Yadava period, at Gondegaon, Jafrabad andUndingaon. 
1979 - 80 Dhulia V. L. Dharurkar of the circle, in the course of exploration collected microlithic tools from the site at Achhi, Akkadese, Arave, Dondaicha, Paste, Pimpri and Varne all in Sindhkhed Taluka.
1980 - 81 Dhulia S. N. Raghunath and L. S. Rao of the circle in course of exploration at village Methi, collected the Sherds of the Late Harappan and the Malva wares bearing painting. The site also yielded parallel sided blades and fluted cores on agate and chalcedony. At Alara, the sherds of Jorwe ware, thick red ware of the Late Harappan type and microlithic tools like points, besides a few cores, all made on agate and chalcedony are found. Further at Kurkawada, L. S. Rao discovered Jorwe ware shards besides core and flake – tools made on chalcedony and jasper. 
1980 - 81 Osmanabad As part of problem oriented exploration S. N. Raghunath of the circle noticed Chalcolithic pottery at Malkhed and the late Stone Age tool at Kunchur in the Bhima river valley.
1981 - 82 Aurangabad T. M. Keshava of the circle, in the course of exploration, collected Middle Paleolithic tools, scrapers and points at Sultanpura, on the bank of the rivulet-Nag-Jhari. The tools are made on agate, chalcedony and green Jasper. 
1981 - 82 Bhandara S. N. Raghunath of the circle, during the exploration located late Stone Age sites at Urmed, Mul, Sadeswar, Gondpimpri, Bori and Adyal. The tools are blades and scrapers on chalcedony and agate.
1981 - 82 Dhulia L. S. Rao of the circle during the course of exploration noticed a chalcolithic site at Kholaj on the right bank of the Bun nullah, near Kharde, Budruk village, which yielded black-on-red and black-and-red-ware. He further discovered a site at Pandari situated on the left bank of the river Tapi, which yielded sherds of the black-on-red ware and black-and-red-ware.
1982 - 83 Ahmednagar M. R. Dhekane of the circle in the course of exploration discovered a large number of upper Paleolithic tools at Bhojade, black-on-red, pottery at Rastapur and at Shingide
1982 - 83 Jalgaon S. R. Raghunath of the circle during the course of exploration in the Uppar Tapi valley discovered Chalcolithic site at Baraval, Dhanora and Varavali.
1983 - 84 Gadchiroli S. N. Raghunath of the circle discovered a Paleolithic site on the Wainganga river near the village Thameshwansa in Mul Taluka. 
1985 - 86 Ahmednagar In the course of exploration S. S. Parekh of the noticed antiquarian remains of late Medieval and Marahta period.
1985 - 86 Nagpur In the course of exploration of the submergence are of lower Wunna Irrigation Project M. Mahadeviah of the circle noticed Middle Paleolithic site at Dhudala and Jaipur in Nagpur Taluka and Borgaon Kursapur, Kawdapur, Ridhora (Motha) and Salai Ravi in Umred Taluka.
1985 - 86 Nanded Ajit Kumar of the circle during the course of exploration of the submergence area of Lendi Major Irrigation Project noticed aniguirian remain of Middle Paleolithic tools in Bhrswari Bhatapur, Bhendegaon (Buzurg), Bhendegaon (khurd), Bhingoli, Hasnal, Kolnur, Marajwari, Makrakabad (Khurka), Kolanki and Rawangaon village.
1986 - 87 Ahmednagar In the course of exploration S. S. Parekha of the circle noticed Late Medieval Temple and remains at Sanguri Velapur in Kopargaon Taluka and Chincholi Gurav, Kaote, Nalvande, Paregaon, Sumanpur and Tigaon in Sangamner Taluka.
1986 - 87 Amaravati In the course of exploration in the submergence area of the Bembla River Project, Ajit Kumar of the Aurangabad Circle of the survey noticed early historical and medieval remains at Dhamak and Gaikhed in Chandur in Chandur Taluka of Amaravati district
1986 - 87 Yeotmal In the course of exploration in the submergence area of the Bembla River Project, Ajit Kumar of the Aurangabad Circle of the survey noticed early historical and medieval remains at Dighikhanapur, Fatehpur, Kopra, Kuraigaon, Pahur, Paloti, Pimpal Khuta and Savanga in Yeotmal Taluka of Yeotmal district.
1987 - 88 Ahmednagar In the course of village-to-village S. S. Parekh of he Aurangabad Circle noticed antiquarian of late medieval remains in Kauthe Kamalaeshwar, Kakargaon, Konchi, Lahore, Nannaji, Nimgaon-Jag, Nimman Rajapur and Vadgaon (Pan) Valhe village of Sagamner Taluka.
1987 - 88 Amaravati Shri Ajit Kumar of the Aurangabad Circle of the survey during the course of exploration in the submergence area of Shahnoor river project in Taluka Achalpur reported the discovery of a mound yielding early historical and medieval pottery in the village of Morgad and Wadgaon. Pottery was represented by course red ware, burnished red shipped ware, course Grey ware and shreds of black and red ware.
1987 - 88 Wardha D. N. Sinha of the Aurangabad Circle, during the course of exploration in the submergence area of Dindora weir project noticed a ruined Hemadpanthi temple datable to 13th –14th Century A. D. early historical and medieval pottery at Hinganghat.
1988 - 89 Beed S. L. Jadhav of the circle noticed following sites of Archaeological interest in Georai during course of village-to-village survey:

1989 - 90 Osmanabad Shri M. R. Dhekane of the circle during the course exploration of submergence area of the Lower Terna Project, Taluka Umerga, noticed a Hemadpanthi temple. It consists of Sabhamandapa, anti-chamber, proper shrine and Pardakhinapatha. This temple dedicated to Siva and datable to 13th century A. D. of Yadava period. The temple faces East.
1990 - 91 Ahmednagar Ajit Kumar of the circle noticed following antiquarian remains at Sangamner taluka of the district during village-to-village survey.

1991 - 92 Ahmednagar In the course of exploration of submergence area of Tajnapur left irrigation project, taluka Pathardi, D. N. Sinha of the circle noticed the following antiquarian remains.

Hanuman Takli A sunned in Roman as well as modi script (18-01-1876) issued on behalf of the Secretary of State in council by the orders of the Govt. in council of Bombay by and under hand and seal of Alienation Settlement Officer. The sunned continued the Inam (of Rs. a per annum) Granted to the Maruti temple by the former (British) Government.
Jawakhed-Dumala Deepmala of the medieval period.
Jawakhed-Khalsa Mud bastion of the late period, Hemadpanthi Barav of 13th century A. D. and sunned of 19th century A.D. in Modi script with drawings on its leather cover.
Kopre A medieval site yielding pottery, terracotta bead and stone dabber.

Aita Ghatanji/Yeotmal Village is yielded thick deposit of layer nearly 8 to 10 feet in height (Middle Paleolithic and Microliths tools) it is flood deposited mound consisting Stone Age tools of prehistoric period. Other interesting remains of the village are broken (Mutilated) Ganesh sculpture and beautiful Sati stone belonging to the 16th century A.D.

Ghoti Ghtanji/Yeotmal An open pillared mandap is situated on the hill of the village. The linga and mutilated sculpture are kept in the Mandap. The Mandap has 16 pillars probably 18th century A.D. A residential building i.e. wada has been found / noticed belonging to the 18th century A.D. i.e. late medieval, middle Paleolithic tools.
Kelapur Ghtanji/Yeotmal Middle Paleolithic tools. There is a temple of Siva known as Kaileshwar situated southern side of the village datable to 18th century AD.
Khadaka/Khadki Ghtanji/Yeotmal Middle Paleolithic and Microlithic, or residential building of 18th century AD is also noticed as well as British and Muslim coins.
Kap Ghtanji/Yeotmal A temple dedicated to Lord Siva is noticed known as Kapileshwar. It has also Ghabhara and anti chamber. The temple is built on high platform (i.e. Podium). On the lintel of the temple usual Ganesh figure is carved.  On the ceiling of Garbhagriha and antechamber have a design. The mandap has 18 pillars. In the middle of the mandap bull is kept. The temple may be belonged to 17th A.D. but mandap may be belonged to the 18th century A.D. The temple is quite in good state of preservation. A residential building of the 18th century AD is also noticed. Besides, the prehistoric tools have been found.

1992 - 93 Aurangabad S. K. Mittra of Aurangabad Circle of the survey during the course of exploration noticed an early historic site at village Thakurwadi, Tq. Kannad of the district. The cultural assemblages found there include the early historical pottery consisting of red ware, red slipped ware, dull red ware, gray ware, etc. The type includes thick-rimmed storage jar, globular vessels, carninated vessels, shallow basin, spouted vessels, etc. Some potsherds carries etched and appliqué design. Besides, some terracotta animal figurines, glass bangle pieces, saddle quern, stone pastles, rotary quern, a broken grinding stone lamp and ancient bricks.

1997 - 98 Aurangabad M. R. Dhekane, A.A., D. N. Sinha, A.A. and H. S. Naik, A.A. of the Aurangabad Circle of the survey during the course of exploration found blades, scrapers, cores and other microliths of chert, agate and chalcedony. A Linga pitha and some potsherds of late medieval period were also noticed.  
1999 - 2000 Aurangabad a)            As per the instruction of Shri S. V. Venkateshaiah, S.A., the exploration was undertaken on the opposite site of caves at foot of the hill to study the ancient bricks remains. The exploration team was lead by M. Mahadevaiah, Dy. S.A., accompany with V. D. Jadhav, A.A., H. S. Naik, A.A., H. R. Desai, A.A., Sr. C.A., Ajanta, V. R. Satbhai, Photographer Gr. I, and two Monument Attendant of Ajanta Caves. The exploration revealed the remains of bricks structure (size 43x21x8 cm and 40x20x8 cm) seems to be of Satvahana and Vakataka period. During the course of exploration, some potsherds and antiquities collected, which consists of typical sprinkler of Kushna variety, a small bowl, bases of bowls, bases of vase, red polished ware; coursed red ware and a brick cube. The archaeological vestige found shows that this piece of land once inhabited by the Satavahana and Vakataka, when the caves were in religious use. A systematic exploration may throw more light on caves, which may help to co-relate the caves with Archaeological vestige or a digging in very much essential to ascertain the importance of the site.

District Nature of remains
Bhadravati, Tq.Bhadravati, Remains of Buddhist, Hindu and Jain temple are noticed. The images include Ganesha, Brahama, Vishnu, Varuna and Kubera of Hindu faith. Beside there is a Siva temple of medieval period. To the west of village remains of same Jain sculptures are also noticed.
Ghot-Nambala, A medieval Hindu temple datable to circa 11th –12th Century A.D. It consists of ruined garbha-griha, antarala and mandapa. There is loose sculpture of saptamatrika panel on stone is lying nearby the temple.
Ghanta –Chowki, A temple of Hemadpanthi style of medieval period is noticed. On plan, it consists of garbha-griha, antarala and porch.
Somthana, Remain of an old shrine temple datable to early medieval period is noticed. The only mandapa part is survived at present

1999 - 2000 Nanded f)             H. S. Naik of the Aurangabad Circle of the survey during course of exploration a group of temple on top of the hill. Among them one belong to Bhairavi temple and two others are Siva temple, assignable to circa 12th –13th Century A.D.

Mungoli, Ta. Vani, remains of two temple, one of saint and another is Hunuman, datable to 18th Century A.D.
Judga, Ta. Vani,  Remains of a medieval period temple. On plan, it consists of sabhamandapa and shrine. The sabhamandapa is supported by vase and foliage design capitals. It has dome like shikhara with beautiful ceiling.
2000 - 2001 Aurangabad Under the Guidance of S.V. Venkateshaiah, a team consisting of by M. Mahadevaiah and R. Krishnaiah , V.D. Jadhav, H.S. Naik, H.R. Desai, P.G. Deshmukh of Aurangabad Circle carried out a systematic exploration of left bank of river Waghora to trace out the ancient steps/pathways leads from various caves down to the river. During the course of exploration the remains of the ancient steps/ pathways have been traced in front of caves 1, 2, 4 in between cave 5 & 6, front of cave 7,11,16,17 & 21.  Some of the steps were either missing or damaged due to various human and natural activities.
2000 - 2001 Buldhana V.D. Jadhav of Aurangabad circle of survey, during the course of exploration in Lonar taluka of District Buldhana, discovered the following sites of archaeological importance.

2002 - 2003 Dhulia P.C. Chaudhari, V.D. Jadhav, and D.T. Asar carried out exploration of Hingona Sim, Hingona Khurd and varsus.  All these sites were previously identified as proto-historic, yielding pottery of late Harappan and Jorwe culture.  While at Hingona Sim and Hingona Khurd habitation mounds could not be noticed, at Varsus, a huge low mound roughly measuring 500 m x 500 m was noticed.  The mound is located on the left bank of river Buri a tributary or river Tapti.  The pottery finds include that of Malwa, Jorwe and early historical period.
2005 - 2006 Aurangabad a.        A chance discovery of brick pathway on the right bank of Guava River near dam was exposed when the gates of the Jayakwadi dam were opened for releasing surplus water. Several local news papers reported this matter. After noticing the information the site was examined and documented.          The exposed brick pathway like structure is oriented in North-South direction. The exposed pathway measures nearly 3.30 meter in length and 1.6 meter in width consisting of brick at edge in English bond. The bricks are slightly included for better slip. Different sizes of bricks were encountered during survey i.e. 59X29X9 cm, 58X30X9 cm and 60X30X9 cm, etc. The pathway extends unto the flow channel and pieces of the bricks can be seen in to the view. Another brick structure was encountered a the surface a little distance away consisting same bricks standing on length side (vertical), which ruins in North-South orientation. The exposed brick structure measuring nearly 2.1 meter in length and 1.5 meter in width and brick measuring 44X24X5 cm. In the course of exploration a few pot shreds were also noticed the main shapes being Red ware represented dish, vase and miniature pots. These structures are the remains of a pathway datable to Satvahana period (circa 1st C. B. C. to 3rd C. A.D.).   +
2006 - 2007 Buldhana Dr. Manoj Kumar Kurmi, Assistant Archaeologist, has completed exploration of the remaining 23 villages falling in the submergence area under the Jigaon Irrigation Project, District Buldhana.
