This site was excavated in 1950-51 by the Deccan College Research Institute, Pune. The excavation revealed it to be single culture site of the Deccan Chalcolithic complex. The site has yielded many antiquities including microlithic tools but it shot into prominence because a unique class of chalcolithic pottery was found here for the first time and hence designated as Jorwe ware. The predominant pottery was the painted black-on-red pottery. The pottery was decorated and plain wares. The associated antiquities ware beads of semi-precious stones, copper antiquities, microlithic tools, etc. The site is comparable to the Chalcolithic phase of Nasik assignable to 1400-1000 BC.
