Caves & Temple

The remains at Harishchandragad comprise a temple complex with a stepped tank and caves. A temple is notable in form of latin shikhara capped with a flat amalaka and a finial. There are 9 rock cut Brahmanical caves, excavated in the low scarp of the rock. These caves are almost plains; some sculptures of Ganesh are contained therein. Cave No. 1 is one of the largest caves in this group, containing large veranda, moulded pillars and door with a small Ganesh on the lintel. The site is datable to 10th - 1th century AD.
